What is Chest Pain

There are many reasons behind chest pain in Ayurveda. All the three doshas i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha reside in the same form in the heart. Due to the increase or decrease of the three doshas separately, there is a problem of chest pain.

When we take food through the mouth, saliva is produced in the mouth. This saliva starts breaking down the starch present in the food into smaller molecules. The food then travels through the food pipe into the stomach, where the lining of the stomach produces digestive products to digest the food. Acid is also formed during this process. In many people, the lower esophageal sphincter (food pipe) does not close properly, and often remains open. Due to which stomach acid goes back out into the esophagus.

This causes heaviness and pain in the chest and severe burning. This is called GERD or acid reflux. Pain and stiffness before a heart attack can also occur in other parts of the body. It can also cause pain or heaviness in the arms, back, neck and jaw. Sometimes this pain can start from any part of the body and reach directly to the chest. That's why people associate it with heartburn, but this is not always appropriate.

 
Causes of Chest pain

Apart from heart related problems, chest pain can also be due to some other reasons. This problem can also be due to any problem of lung infection, alimentary canal, muscles, rib nerves. Heaviness and pain in the chest or chest can be felt anywhere from the lower part of the neck to the upper part of the abdomen (sine me dard).

Common causes of chest pain include inflammation in the lining of the lungs (pleura) leading to chest pain. Lung diseases such as pneumonia and asthma can also cause chest pain.

Pleuritis (inflammation of the inner walls of the chest) – Inflammation of the inner membrane of the chest can cause chest pain. If the membrane present on the upper surface of the lung becomes inflamed, then the air starts rubbing on breathing through the swollen surface of the inner membrane of the chest, causing unbearable pain. This condition is called pleuritis. Most of the pleuritis is caused by TB infection or pneumonia.

TB - The main cause of chest pain can also be TB. In this disease, there may also be swelling in the membrane of the lungs, due to which the patient starts feeling pain when he breathes by rubbing air on the swollen surface.

Angina Pectoris – One of the reasons for left side chest pain can also be a heart attack. Recurrent chest pain is a symptom of angina pectoris, which takes the form of heart disease. In this problem the amount of blood reaching the heart is reduced. Due to lack of oxygen supply to the heart, there is difficulty in breathing with chest pan (heart attack ke karan).

Peripheral Vascular Disease – Pain in the arteries of the heart is called peripheral vascular (P.V.D). Chest pain (chati me dard) occurs when the circulation of blood in the arteries that connects the heart to the internal organs and the brain is obstructed.

Coronary Artery Dissection- A hole or scratch in a coronary artery is called coronary artery dissection. This condition can arise due to a variety of factors. This can cause sudden severe pain.

Bone/nerve problems – Chest pain can also be caused by a broken chest rib. Inflammation of the ribs is known as osteochondritis, which causes chest pain. Injury to the spine can also cause chest pain, in which cardiac pain becomes difficult to detect. Chest pain occurs due to inflammation in the nerves due to herpes.

Stomach problems- Due to many diseases of stomach, chest pain can also occur. Acidity and acid reflux can sometimes cause chest pain and discomfort. Sometimes chest pain can also occur due to spasm in the food pipe or peptic ulcer (wound). When gas is formed in the gallbladder and this gas moves towards the chest, then symptoms of gas are felt in the chest and the chest starts to pan.

Difference Between Heart Attack and Heart Burn

Heartburn or acidity is not related to heart pain, but this problem arises due to the acid produced in the stomach. Burning in the chest or throat and sour belching, feeling of vomiting, feeling heavy in the stomach, all these are symptoms of heartburn. If you eat too much food in one go, a valve is formed between the stomach and the esophagus. This valve pushes the acid produced in the stomach towards the esophagus, due to which you feel the symptoms of gas in the chest.

Blood vessels carry oxygen along with the blood to the heart. The blood vessels that carry blood to the heart are called coronary arteries. But whenever an artery suddenly gets blocked due to fat, protein or blood clot, a heart attack occurs.

Heartburn causes burning and pain in the chest, but along with this, you also feel a burning sensation in your alimentary canal, as well as sometimes feeling like food coming out after belching. While the pain caused by a heart attack spreads to the shoulders, neck, and arms, the pain caused by a heart attack usually includes cold sweats and dizziness and trouble breathing.
